Inspiration- I was reading this book 'Megiddo's Shadow' and while not my normal style of book, it is awesome. Well, I guess the inspiration came from the boy's father in the aforementioned book. He was a veteran who survived the war physically, but mentally he was broken. Then the boy (his son) goes and signs up for WW1 and discovers just how little glory there actually is in war. That when the war is declared over, he never really got the glory he had sought after and that now he would have to live with some of the things he had done. I can't really explain it better than that, though if you'd read the book you'd immediately realize what I meant.
